Grain-Free Mythology

Recently the Food and Drug Administration found sixteen brands of dog food that are linked to heart disease. To name a few brands includes: Acana, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo, Fromm, and many more. Heart condition corelates to heart failure that can be traced to a genetic component. Unfortuantely studies suggest that golden retrievers are most prone to developing heart disease from these grain free dog foods. This leads to cardiomyopathy that thins the left ventricle of the heart; where the last place blood rests before the heart begins pumping it out. That then weakens the heart, allowing fluid to enter a dog’s lungs, resulting in a cough or illness. According to Dr. De Young, president of the vetinary association,  the heart disease is able to be treated with medication if caught in the early stages. (Jax4Kids.com, August 2019)
